Seven reasons why you might not be getting enough sleep

By Ian Spence

According to research from experts, we can learn much about the status of our relationship by the way we position ourselves when we sleep with partners.

However, if you're not getting enough sleep and suffering from the aforementioned symptoms then it may be worth reviewing exactly why you're not getting enough allocated sleep time. This article will highlight seven of the most common reasons why some people don't get their fair share of sleep.

The research claims that there are four different types of sleeping patterns that can be attributed to when snuggling up next to a spouse. There are also seven more positioning styles for those who sleep by themselves and each reveals certain traits in someone's personality.

Alcohol and Caffeine While consuming large amounts of alcohol can leave you feeling drowsy, the quality of sleep that you'll endure is likely to be tampered by restlessness. Caffeine is another consumable that spells trouble for your sleeping pattern. Because it is a stimulant, caffeine keeps you alert and prevents you from easing into a gentle sleep.

Eating before bed time is also something you should look to avoid if possible. Heavy meals in particular will leave you feeling uncomfortable and may even give you heartburn, making it extremely difficult to sleep. If you do have an urge to snack, make sure you eat lightly.

The Cliffhangers This position sees partners facing away from each other and close to the edge of the opposite sides of the bed - hence the name 'Cliffhangers'. There are said to be two different explanations for this type of sleeping pattern. The first could be that each of the individuals likes to have their own personal space. This arrangement could also insinuate that the people in the relationship are two very different people and are an example of the phrase "opposites attract".

The Cradle The Cradle consists of the male lying on his back with the female positioned on her front and under the arm of her male counterpart. Again, this can have two different meanings which could be interpreted in separate manners. Firstly, this can be a sure sign that the relationship is healthy and includes a high level of intimacy. However, it can also represent that a female is experiencing stress and the male is attempting to make them feel better.

Sleeping disorders If you're not sleeping right then you may have a sleeping disorder such as insomnia or sleep apnoea. If you're concerned it's important to seek medical advice on the matter and they will provide you with solutions to help you sleep better.

The Spooners This type of sleeping style is rather self-explanatory and involves one partner being cradled up close to their other half with both people facing in the same direction. This generally transmits that the couple are extremely comfortable in each other's company and want to be affectionate towards one another.
