How Anti Shoplifting Devices Bring Positive In Business

By Rebekah Alford

Many businesses feel the effects of goods taken away from them through theft. Casual theft accounts for some of the cases but the most damaging is through organized crime. Various technologies have come up to counter this problem and lower the cost of doing business. By employing anti shoplifting devices, not only is it possible to detect and arrest offenders, but the overall workload in preventing the crimes is reduced.

Although many solutions have been made available, none of them is able to protect every type of product being sold. These devices provide better protection by using the right type for each category of merchandise. For example, a protection mechanism for clothing might not be efficient when used on perfume bottles. However, by implementing multiple solutions, many categories of products can be covered.

Other than a protection device helping in detection, it also acts as a deterrent to would be shoplifters. If the mechanism used is so obvious and is made harder to disable, people are unlikely to proceed with their planned theft. When a casual shoplifter sees a protection device, it may prompt them to think of what other mechanisms are in place to detect theft.

Tags and labels that are difficult to defeat or remove can be quite effective in detecting and preventing crime. If a shoplifter has a hard time disabling the security device, chances are the thought of stealing will be discarded. Tags that are easier to remove will have a reduced success level, which will require an additional, more effective deterrent.

While tagging products is an effective security strategy, it is tricky to implement for small items. Larger items like furniture, are easier to protect and probably less expensive to protect. Different mechanisms can be tested to ascertain which one works best for each category of goods. If the wrong devices are used on an item, chances are it will not work as expected. It can also lead to higher expenses.

The business should have a mechanism for removing or disabling each security device on purchased items. Buyers will rest assured that no alarms will go off when they are leaving. A customer getting embarrassed due to an active tag is being unprofessional. Due to some of the tags emitting ink on merchandise like clothing, it would be wrong for it to happen to a legitimate customer.

Other security systems are useful for acquiring the necessary proof of what exactly happened during an incident. Surveillance cameras are a useful addition, since they record the actual activities that go on. A person captured while carrying out a theft is less likely to go unpunished since the images provide all the proof of such an occurrence.

Theft is one challenge that many businesses continue to face. Many solutions are available to counter this problem. More gadgets keep being introduced into the market as technology improves. By implementing anti shoplifting devices, businesses are able to fight theft in a bid to reduce or eliminate it. Other solutions can also be included to intensify the fight against this vice.
